Back!

YO! I am back from Ipoh. Hmm, it's time to post something about SWEEP 2007. Haha, I enjoyed my time there although some of the things were kinda tough for me. *hmmm*. It was a good exposure for me on social work and many other current issues in Malaysia. It really opened up my eyes to many things. I guess it has also helped me to know more about myself.

I did my attachment in United Voice-Self Advocacy Society of Persons with Learning Disabilities during the first week of SWEEP. There are different types of learning disabilities and different individual is affected by it differently. Some cases are the minor minor ones where they are slow learners. The more serious ones, some can't talk, some can't walk. I was assigned to pair withBasri , sitting next to him while he puts the cards into the plastic bags. Looking at him, I can't help but feeling sorry for him. He can only speak a fewsuku kata , he couldn't walk like a normal person could. But he brings that kind of cheerfulness to me when he smiles. Some of them whom I met during my attachment communicate with one another using "uuhh uuhh.. arr arr..". I wonder.. how is their world? How do they translate all that they heard and saw into their understanding? What comes out from it? I guess it's kinda no point asking, oh well.. But one thing which is very special about them -- they care for one another. Although some of them may not be able to express it with words.. well, sometimes actions is more than enough.

My attachment in the second week was in Shelter 1, a home for abused, abandoned kids age between 4-12. I have seen children's home thru' tv series and heard stories about those homes from my mum when I was a kid. Why ar? She 'threatened' to send me there coz of misbehaviour. Duh...! Haha, we discovered the trampoline in their compound during our last day in Shelter. Me, WitchOne and YeLing jumped up n down like kids. Check out WitchOne's blog! I had a fun time with the kids la, esp playing chess with a boy named KaiMin.
Aiyoh.. there are many stories to tell, I'm kinda lazy to type it out. Ask me if you wanna know about my experience in SWEEP. Hehe... =p Here are some pics of that cekap 2 weeks.

Understanding Physically Handicapped. This picture is very funny la. Wanling and I was describing (we still can talk at that time) where were we and how's the surrounding to Su-yen since she was blind. So happened we were facing the same direction. So did the blind!
Frustrating! Being the only one with eyes but was mute and having no hands.. Yes or No? Thump my feet la! Can't speak, can't write with hands. I can't shout for help when I saw wanling being 'kidnapped' by Lianchui to the conference room in lower ground. I can't shout 'Hey, you cheat her money' when I saw it happening right in front of me. Duh.. You will never understand how frustrating it is!

I'm excited to be reading up on the SWEEP program. I wish America had more things like this.
